Job Description Summary

Under the general direction of the manager, the on-call nurse performs professional nursing duties in a college health setting in support of PGCC’s Health Education Centers’ mission and vision. The general care of any persons seeking medical advice or care. This person is also responsible for providing direct health care services, including first aid, care for illnesses and injuries occurring on campus, emergency readiness, special services to the disabled, health education and health promotion programs and referrals for further healthcare to the community. Confidentiality is essential.

Minimum Qualifications
  1. RN licensed in Maryland.
  2. Combination of education and related experience in a nursing facility or nursing center totaling four to five years.
  3. Minimum 5 years in ambulatory setting or college health center preferred.

CRITERIA: The following criteria, which are not the sole criteria used in the final hiring decision, will be used to review the applications of those persons who meet the stated minimum qualifications and to select those qualified applicants who will be interviewed.   1. Knowledge of Nurse Practice act (Annotated Code of Maryland Health Occupations Article, Title (18, 8 311).
  2. Organize, set priorities and manage workload.
  3. Ability to act independently, good problem solving and assessment skills with diverse populations.
  4. Evaluate client’s health problems, implementation of nursing plan of care.
  5. Ability to document care regarding the nursing practice.
  6. Ability to follow team leader. Professional competence.
  7. Basic IT skills (Outlook, Microsoft office).
Job Requirements
  1. Must be available to work Monday – Friday during the hours of 8:30 a.m. to 6:30 p.m. and limited Saturdays. Work schedule subject to change based on the needs of the department.
  2. Proof of immunity to communicable diseases such as hepatitis B, MMR (measles, mumps, rubella), varicella, polio and/or Td/Tdap.
  3. Yearly TB skin test required.
  4. Minimum 5 years in ambulatory setting or college health center preferred.
  5. Ability to communicate effectively in spoken and written standard English.
  6. As required by the 1986 Immigration Act, be prepared to present acceptable documentation showing your identity and that you are a U.S. citizen or an alien who is authorized to work.
  7. A fingerprint supported background investigation will be conducted prior to offer of employment. A signed authorization for release of personal information will be required if selected for an interview.
