Job Description Summary

The academic tutor works in conjunction with faculty tutors to provide individualized instructional services to students enrolled at Prince George’s Community College. The services provided include individual tutoring,
use of computer software, and other forms of individualized small group instruction.

Minimum Qualifications
  1. High school diploma or equivalent.
  2. 12-18 months related experience such as internships, teaching assistant or employment.
    Completion of courses with a grade of an A or B or professional experience equivalent to a grade of a A or B.
    Must be able to work in both a one-on-one and a small group setting.
    Preference will be given to candidates who can tutor in the following areas:
    College Level General Biology – Bio 1130/1140 or 2050/2060 and nursing courses.
    or
    INT 2200 (programming in Java), INT 2210 (Computer science), INT 2220(Computer Science II), INT 1450 (Intro to CISCO), INT 1460 (Routing and switching), INT 2450 (Scaling Networks), INT 2460 (Connecting networks), INT 1620 (Computer Security)
Criteria

CRITERIA: The following criteria, which are not the sole criteria used in the final hiring decision, will be used to review the applications of those persons who meet the stated minimum qualifications and to select those qualified applicants who will be interviewed. Other information and observations made during the interview process may be considered in the selection process.   1. Must be able to work flexible hours and at least 10 hours per week.
  2. Must be prompt and follow the guidelines set forth in the Tutoring Center Handbook.
  3. Must be able to perform detailed work independently, as well as in a team environment.
  4. Must have outstanding customer service skills and be able to deal with a variety of personalities.

Job Requirements
  1. Must be able to commit to the assigned weekly schedule not to exceed 18 hours per week. Work schedule subject to change based on department needs. Must be able to work a flexible work schedule including some evening and weekend hours.
  2. Must be able to effectively communicate in spoken and written Standard English with students, faculty, and staff.
