Job Description Summary

The mission of the Academic Peer Assistant (APA) Program is to provide additional academic support as well as help forge a bond between the student, the APA, and the academic advisor during peak registration. The goal of this program is to promote student ownership to new and returning students on the registration process through Owl Link. By exposing new and returning students to the key services and opportunities available to them, we hope that the APAs will enable students to make well informed choices and decisions.

Minimum Qualifications
  1. Under 18 with work permit, high school diploma or equivalent.
  2. Zero to six months of experience.
  3. Must have a minimum cumulative 3.0 G.P.A.
  4. Successful completion of EGL 0100 and DVR 0061 or ESL 0202 and ESL 0106.

CRITERIA: The following criteria, which are not the sole criteria used in the final hiring decision, will be used to review the applications of those persons who meet the stated minimum qualifications and to select those qualified applicants who will be interviewed. Other information and observations made during the interview process may be considered in the selection process. Please ensure that your documents address the criteria listed below for this position.

  1. Possess good organizational skills.
  2. Be an independent learner and worker.
  3. Must be able to assist new and returning students with searching and registering for classes on Owl Link.
  4. Must be able to assist new students on how to create an Owl Link account.
  5. Must be able to provide general information on academic programs of study to the students.
  6. Must be able to assist the students in interpreting his/her program evaluation on Owl Link.
  7. Applicant must attend all training sessions and meetings pertaining to the APA program.
  8. Must be able to facilitate educational plan workshops to current students on Owl Link.
  9. Must be able to work within one of the following shifts:
    • Shift One: 9 am – 12 pm
    • Shift Two: 12 pm – 4 pm
    • Shift Three: 4 pm – 8 pm
Job Requirements
  1. Must be able to work flexible hours. Work hours subject to change based on the needs of the department.
  2. Must be responsible and dependable.
  3. Ability to communicate effectively in spoken and written standard English.
  4. As required by the 1986 Immigration Act, be prepared to present acceptable documentation showing your identity and that you are a U.S. citizen or an alien who is authorized to work.
