Job Description Summary

Performs specialized police work in protecting life and property, preventing violations, enforcing laws and regulations on College property, apprehending violators, and reporting infractions of rules and regulations of the College.

Minimum Qualifications
  1. Police officer certified by the Maryland Police & Correctional Training Commissions or eligible for certification under comparative compliance. To be eligible for certification under comparative compliance you must have completed a recognized law enforcement training academy consisting of 760 hours of classroom instruction or be a formerly certified police officer who has been absent from law enforcement for more than three, but less than five years.
  2. Two years of law enforcement experience as a certified police officer. Must have resigned or retired in good standing.
  3. A minimum of 60 accredited college credit hours is preferred
  4. Valid driver’s license with no more than two violations and/or three points. No history of serious and/or repeated violations, or failure to appear in court suspensions.
  5. Must be a minimum of 21 years of age at time of appointment.
  6. Must be a U.S. citizen.
Criteria

The following criteria, which are not the sole criteria used in the final hiring decision, will be used to review the applications of those persons who meet the stated minimum qualifications and to select those qualified applicants who will be interviewed. Other information and observations made during the interview process may be considered in the selection process.

  2. Extent of course work in an appropriate curriculum.
  3. Evidence of ability to work well with people at all levels.
  4. Evidence of ability to work with the community.
Job Requirements
  1. Applicants must complete an additional form that is required for this position. Please stop by the Human Resources Office in Kent Hall, Room 103 before the close date. This form requires that your signature be notarized. We have a Notary Public available in Kent Hall. Please bring a photo i.d. (driver’s license, etc.) with you. This form must be in our office by the closing date.
  2. Must be a minimum of 21 years of age at time of appointment.
  3. Must be high school graduate or GED equivalent.
  4. Must be a U.S. citizen.
  5. Must satisfactorily pass a psychological evaluation.
  6. Must satisfactorily pass a medical exam and drug screen.
  7. Must qualify for Maryland State Special Police Commission and Handgun permit.
  8. Must be able to work required overtime for college sponsored events, college registration, both on campus and at extension centers.
  9. Must also be able to work beyond assigned shift hours and/or on weekends and/or other shift hours.
  10. Hours for this position will be determined.
  11. Ability to communicate effectively in spoken and written standard English.
